Wushu Demonstration

in red robes and armed with metre-long sticks, a dozen Chinese fighters fly through
the air and land on a sea of blue mats with cat-like agility" (Daily Post).
In 2002, Ms-L invited one of top Wushu teams----- Tianjin Wushu team to demonstrate
their skills in 14 cities in Wales and England: Birmingham, Portsmouth, Southampton,
Preston, Nottingham, Blackpool, Bristol, Leeds, Brighton, Newport, Brecon, Rhyl,
and Aberystwyth. The team was entirely made up of national youth
champions while their senior instructor Wu Bin also coached the martial arts film
star Jet Li. These youngsters showed off more the 40 types of fights, with and
without weapons. Wushu is not all about attacking. Wushu movements
are graceful and full of artistry. Wushu, or the art of fighting, is a time-honoured
sport in China which stretches back several thousand years. The performance of
weaponry included sward, broadsword, spear, cudgel, whip, dagger, meteor hammer,
long handled broadsword and double swords, which constituted 18 types of martial
arts; Bare hand forms demonstrated even more variety, they are Long boxing, Southern
style, Drunken style, Fanzi boxing, Mantis, Baji, Eagle claw, Monkey style, Through-the-back,
Arbat, floor skill Palm, etc. The team also performed a number of beautiful Tai
Chi exercises. The shows were well welcomed by audience, especially
to majority non Wushu practitioners. They were so surprised to find out that the
content of Chinese Wushu is much richer and its movements are more artistic than
they expected. They expressed they would like to watch more of this in future.
A quite number of youngsters came to talk to our performers and asked if they
could teach them Wushu. In Nottingham, one of our Tai Chi actors was held hands
tightly by an old gentlemen who shined tears in his eyes, he was very excited
by the show, he commented it was the most wonderful shows he had ever seen.
London University Seminar Ms-L
introduced Tianjin Wushu team to the martial arts club in London University where
they hosed a Wushu seminar in ULU¡¯s famous Room101. Southern style
and Cudgel weapon style were taught to the club members. The seminar lasted a
whole day. Wushu players and university students shared meals and party together
in the campus, apart from Wushu learning, friendship was made between nations.
The sports department of the University also supported the event. Staged

Wutan International is one of the biggest Chinese Wushu Association in the UK.
It has many clubs across the UK. Mr They and Mrs They have dedicated themselves
to promote Chinese Wushu and have coached a number of British Wushu Champions
during past. Mrs They was an excellent Wushu player herself. Ms-Ls performing
team staged a number of shows together with Wutan Wushu members.
Aberystwyth Karate Club hosted party for Chinese Wushu
team The
Wushu shows were very popular in the west coast city Aberystwyth although there
was not a Wushu club there. Enthusiastic local karate club hosted a welcome party
for the arrival of the team. At the party, the two parties exchanged performances
as well as cards, photos and signatures. Reading
Wushu Club Learning Wushu in China Led
by Mr Neil Adawy, Kungfu Widow Wushu club based in Reading was very enthusiastic
about Wushu. After series of training courses from the instructors introduced
by Ms-L, the club decided to take a trip to China to learn more Wushu. They were
welcomed in China and arranged to stay in Tianjin University and practised Wushu
side by side with Chinese Wushu students. They lived there for a month, apart
from learning Wushu, they also visited a number of famous sights, and experienced
local culture, which left them many wonderful memories for lifetime. Meeting
Mid-England Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu School The
Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu School was started in 1971 by chief instructor
K.S.M Lee, ranked as the 5th degree black belt, a versatile Wushu master. The
school is attached to the University of Huddersfield. Over the years, many hundreds
of people have benefited from being a member of this school and some have gone
on to become instructors. Ms-Ls Wushu performance was received by a hundred
of its members in Leeds. Za-Ji, Chinese
Acrobatic Spectacular Za-Ji
"opens with a sequence that is more dance than daredevil and what follows
takes time to come to the boil. Languorous scene changes detract from the sequences
of the show, which carried off with requisite smiling faces and moments of high
camp" appreciate amounts of "ooh" and "ahhs" are emitted
at the sight... the second half is more dangerous because suddenly the safety
harnesses start appearing "( Oxford press).. The show is also accompanied with
selected music and backdrop scenes of beautiful China sights. The 35 strong acrobats
impressed 20 cities" audience across England and Wales with their awesome skills
and their world winning routines: Ladies and Their Chairs; Jumping Stunts, Rolling
Cups... etc Za-Ji,
debut West End Still named Za-Ji, the show went into London
West End, the stage of world performing arts, to test its strengths. Following
the popular runs of Chinese martial arts extravaganzas Shaolin Monks, Wushu the
Fist of the Dragon, Zhang Yimous Chinese ballet Red Lantern, and Beijing
Opera, Za-Ji staged in Peacock Theatre, a sister theatre of Sadlers Wells
Theatre. With Za-Jis unique style and astonishing skills, the show delighted
thousands of audience and kids in London and left the West End critics a plenty

Trip Mt Huangshan Tour China offers a rich mix of cultural and historical
sights, a variety of contrasting landscapes from towering mountain to mighty rivers,

peaks. After exciting Za-Ji show, 200 audience signed for Za-Ji Delegation Tour
organized by Ms-L. The delegates were invited as guests to join this arts and
cultural promotional event. Anhui Acrobatics company showed their dedicated training
sessions as well as accompanied them onto nearby Huangshan Mount as well as famous
city Shanghai.
